Pottery
Timothy Carr - International ceramic educator & artist
Using hand-building techniques and wheel throwing, I tell personal narratives through decorative illustrations using underglaze, glaze, painting, and decals. My work is positioned between functional pottery and expressive art - portraying modern experiences grounded in a traditional materials study.
Born in Geneva, Switzerland to Swiss-Canadian parents, I moved to Philadelphia when I was nine. This multi-cultural background informs my work as I explore story telling through adaptation and composition using an interplay of ceramics and multimedia.
With the intention of pursuing a career in teaching ceramics, I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BFA from Tyler School of Art and Architecture at Temple University. While completing an MFA in Art and Design at the University of Delaware, I did a residency at The Kiln Room in Jingdezhen, China, supported by the Center for Materials Culture grant from the Delaware Public Humanities Institute (DELPHI).
My goal is to share my art practice and technical ceramic knowledge challenging the possibilities of ceramic art.
